Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization, announced that more than 60 people were killed in an attack targeting a hospital in southwestern Sudan.
Ghebreyesus stated, in a post on the X platform, that the al-Daein Hospital in the capital of East Darfur State was subjected to an attack that resulted in the death of at least 64 people, including 13 children, and the injury of 89 others, leading to the hospital ceasing its medical services.
The Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO) emphasized that the total number of victims of attacks on health facilities during the conflict in Sudan has exceeded two thousand people.
For its part, the United Nations, through the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in Sudan, expressed its deep outrage over the attack that took place on the East Darfur hospital.
Since April 2023, the country has been witnessing an armed conflict between the Sudanese Army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which has led to the deaths of thousands and the displacement of millions.
