Toruń (Poland) - Algerian athletics legend and former Olympic and World 1500m champion, Noureddine Morceli, was honored by World Athletics on the sidelines of the 2026 World Athletics Indoor Championships concluding in Toruń, in recognition of his exceptional career and remarkable contribution to the history of the sport.
This distinction was awarded to him during a donation ceremony at the Museum of World Athletics (MOWA), in the presence of World Athletics President Sebastian Coe, as well as a gathering of world champions, including Kenyan runner Daniel Komen.
On this occasion, Morceli was presented with a special pin from the Museum of World Athletics. Furthermore, the sports outfit he wore while achieving one of his major career feats has been integrated and displayed among the museum's collections, testifying to the prestigious place he holds in the memory of global athletics.
This symbolic recognition crowns an exceptional sporting career, marked notably by his Olympic gold medal won in 1996 in Atlanta, as well as his World Indoor 1500m Champion title won in 1991 in Seville.
Morceli's presence among the official guests of this global event—which concludes this Sunday evening after three days of competition—adds value to the occasion, given his iconic status in the history of athletics.
