Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb, accompanied by a large ministerial delegation, was received on Tuesday in Niamey by the President of the Republic of Niger, a brotherly country, Army General Abdourahamane Tiani. He conveyed to him the fraternal greetings of the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, as well as his firm commitment to work together to strengthen the bonds of brotherhood and the relations of solidarity and cooperation between the two brotherly countries, a statement from the Prime Minister's Office indicated.
This meeting was an opportunity to review the results of the 2nd session of the Algerian-Nigerien High Joint Commission for Cooperation, which took place over the past three days under the co-chairmanship of the Prime Minister and his Nigerien counterpart, Mr. Ali Lamine Zeine Mahaman.
During this meeting, President Abdourahamane Tiani expressed his high regard and extended his sincere thanks to the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, for his constant commitment to the Republic of Niger and its brotherly people. He recalled his visit to Algeria last February and the important results that followed, which provided a strong impetus to bilateral relations and revitalized cooperation in various fields.
The Nigerien President further affirmed that relations between Algeria and Niger "should serve as a model to follow in the region, because the existing ties between the two countries and the convergence of views at the highest level are all factors capable of elevating bilateral relations and cooperation to a new stage based on solidarity, partnership, and joint coordination on various issues of common interest and the challenges facing the region."
In this regard, he insisted on "the need to work towards the materialization of the important conclusions of the High Joint Commission," affirming his determination to "personally oversee their implementation, alongside his brother, the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune."
For his part, the Prime Minister praised "the depth of the historical ties uniting the two brotherly countries and peoples, as well as the commitment of their respective leaderships to move forward in strengthening bilateral cooperation, through the exploitation of all cooperation and partnership opportunities offered by the economies of the two countries, following a solidarity-based approach founded on complementarity and integration."
The Prime Minister also stated that "the holding of this session comes within the framework of implementing the high directives of the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, and his brother, His Excellency President Abdourahamane Tiani, given during the latter's visit to Algeria last February. This notably includes the need to ensure the follow-up of the implementation of all ongoing cooperation activities between the two countries, including the conclusions of the 2nd session of the High Joint Commission, particularly in the fields of hydrocarbons, energy, agriculture, infrastructure, higher education, vocational training, and others. It also involves exploring all avenues capable of strengthening bilateral cooperation in order to respond to the directives of the leaders of the two countries and meet the expectations of their peoples for greater solidarity, complementarity, and growth."
In a statement following the audience, the Prime Minister said he was honored to have been received by the President of the Republic of Niger, Mr. Abdourahamane Tiani, indicating that he had conveyed to him the greetings of his brother, the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune.
On this occasion, he reaffirmed to him "the personal commitment and great interest that the President of the Republic takes in the development of bilateral relations with the Republic of Niger, a brotherly country, especially since the holding of this 2nd session of the Algerian-Nigerien High Joint Commission concretizes the joint commitment of the leaders of the two countries, as expressed during the visit of His Excellency, President Abdourahamane Tiani to Algeria last February." A visit which, he recalled, constituted an "important step in the process of strengthening cooperation, partnership, and solidarity between the two brotherly countries."
"His Excellency President Abdourahamane Tiani has tasked me with conveying his sincere greetings to his brother, His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, as well as the special esteem he holds for him and his desire to continue the joint work in order to elevate relations between the two countries to the highest levels," the Prime Minister added.
"On this occasion, I also had the opportunity to listen to the relevant analyses of His Excellency President Abdourahamane Tiani regarding the means to strengthen cooperation between the two countries, and to value their potentials and complementarities, with a view to consolidating bilateral cooperation in accordance with the vision agreed upon with his brother, the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune," he continued.
In this context, "the results of the 2nd session of the Algerian-Nigerien High Joint Commission for Cooperation were reviewed, while emphasizing the importance of following them up with continuous efforts on both sides to ensure their effective realization, in the service of the common interests of the two countries and to meet the aspirations of the two brotherly peoples."
The talks also focused "particularly on the economic content of bilateral relations, notably the joint efforts to strengthen commercial and economic exchanges."
This aspect was, moreover, the subject of the Algerian-Nigerien Business Forum, held on the sidelines of the High Joint Commission with the participation of a significant number of economic operators and businessmen from both countries. During this forum, participants examined ways to strengthen the economic partnership in order to support development in both countries.
In the same context, this meeting was an "opportunity to address strategic structural projects, foremost among them the Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline (TSGP) project, the Trans-Saharan Highway, and the Trans-Saharan Fibre Optic Backbone. Both parties reaffirmed their willingness to accelerate their completion, as they are essential levers for achieving economic development and strengthening regional integration."
On the regional level, discussions focused on "the various challenges facing our region, emphasizing the continuation of bilateral consultation and coordination to address them, according to the common vision shared by the leaders of our two countries with a view to promoting peace, security, and stability in our region."
