The Minister of Labour, Employment and Social Security, Mr. Abdelhak Saihi, held bilateral talks in the Nigerien capital, Niamey, with the Minister of Public Service, Labour and Employment of the Republic of Niger, Ms. Aissatou Abdoulaye Tondi. The talks focused on ways to enhance bilateral cooperation in the fields of labour and employment, according to a ministry statement released on Wednesday.

The statement added that during this meeting, which took place on the sidelines of the proceedings of the second session of the Algerian-Nigerien High Joint Commission for Cooperation held in Niamey on March 23 and 24, "the two parties reviewed the prospects for developing a partnership between the two countries. This was particularly highlighted through a draft agreement on employment and workforce mobility, which was presented to the Nigerien side during the expert committee meeting held on Sunday, March 22, 2026. The Nigerien party committed to studying this draft and providing its observations in preparation for submitting it back to the Algerian side."

In this regard, "the Nigerien minister expressed her country's interest in benefiting from the Algerian experience. She presented a set of requests, most notably supporting training efforts in the fields of labour inspection and occupational health and safety, as well as establishing a twinning arrangement between the National Employment Agency and its Nigerien counterpart. This would allow for the transfer of expertise and the benefit of Algeria's pioneering experience in this field."

In this context, the same source highlighted that Mr. Saihi affirmed "Algeria's readiness to assist the Nigerien side," calling for "identifying the primary needs of the labour sector in Niger in order to study and address them according to the available means."

Finally, the Nigerien minister expressed her "desire to conduct a working visit to Algeria to take a closer look at the national experiences in the fields of labour and employment, an initiative that was welcomed by Mr. Saihi."
