The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates welcomed on Wednesday the report issued by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights regarding Zionist settlements in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, and the occupied Syrian Golan.

The Ministry affirmed—in a statement carried by the Palestinian News Agency (WAFA) yesterday—that the UN report's findings comprehensively and in detail document the escalation of the Zionist occupation's grave violations of international law during the reporting period, including the crime of illegal settlement expansion.

It also pointed out that the report highlights the systematic Zionist policies and practices aimed at altering the demographic and geographic character of the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including in East Jerusalem. This is being carried out through the expansion of illegal settlement construction, land confiscation, demolitions, forced evictions, and the imposition of a coercive environment aimed at ethnic cleansing.

The Ministry noted that the report confirms "the unprecedented acceleration in the pace of illegal Zionist settlement expansion, through the approval of thousands of settlement units, the establishment of new settlement outposts, and the expansion of infrastructure aimed at entrenching Zionist control over the Occupied Palestinian Territory, thereby undermining the establishment of an independent and geographically contiguous State of Palestine."
