Members of the Algerian community abroad expressed their deep sorrow following the passing of former President and Mujahid Liamine Zeroual. They paid tribute to his upright national career and steadfast positions in serving the nation, defending citizens' dignity, and preserving state sovereignty during his leadership through a critical and highly sensitive phase of Algeria's history.

In this context, the Secretary General of the Dynamic Movement of Algerians in France (MOUDAF), Nasser Khabat, praised in a statement to APS the career of the late President Liamine Zeroual. He lauded his qualities as a “statesman who bore immense responsibility during a difficult period in the country’s history, remaining firmly committed to the concepts of State and Nation, and demonstrating great wisdom in managing that phase, placing the nation's interest above all considerations”. He emphasized that “his career will remain etched as a respected leader, whose commitment contributed to preserving the foundations of the Algerian State”.

For his part, Professor Elias Boukrami of the University of London emphasized that “Former President Liamine Zeroual was a statesman before being a politician or a military leader; his greatest concern was the continuity of the Republic and the preservation of the Algerian people's dignity”.  He noted that the late President belonged to that “rare breed whom nations never forget and whom history never erases from its memory”.

Algerian embassies abroad, where national flags were flown at half-mast in mourning for the late President, witnessed a significant turnout of community members in an atmosphere marked by profound sadness and emotion.

In front of the Algerian Embassy in Brussels, Mujahida Arrous Fatiha expressed her deep sorrow over the loss of a man of the stature of Mujahid Liamine Zeroual. “I came to our embassy in Brussels to offer my condolences on the passing of my brother-in-arms,” she said, describing him as an “exceptional man who gave so much to the country,” while expressing her pride in his lifelong dedication and contributions to the nation.

For her part, Mrs. Houfani Nassira, a resident of Belgium for 30 years, expressed her “sorrow over Algeria's loss of one of its devoted sons who served it with dedication and sincerity”. She praised the late President's virtues and his contributions during a difficult period for the country, stating: “He was a great man and a noble father who gave Algeria all his love and care”.

Ms. Sabrina Boukhnoufa, President of the “Algerian Diaspora House in Spain” association, expressed the “sorrow of the Algerian community in Madrid over the loss of the Mujahid and father Liamine Zeroual, whom history will immortalize for his actions to preserve the country”. She emphasized that the late President “dedicated his life to serving his nation during a difficult period” and that his career will remain “a beacon from which generations will draw inspiration for patriotism and sacrifice”.

From the Arab Republic of Egypt, Counselor and Director of the Energy Department at the League of Arab States, Abderrahmane Belhout, highlighted the virtues of the late President, stating that with his passing, Algeria has lost one of its loyal sons. He emphasized that Liamine Zeroual was “a symbol of sincere patriotism and a leader who bore immense responsibility during a critical phase of our country's history, serving as an example of wisdom, integrity, and devotion, and contributing to the preservation of Algeria's unity and stability”. The speaker stressed that his passing represents a “great loss” and that his legacy will remain “alive in the memory of Algerians, serving as a testament to the sacrifices and efforts he dedicated to the service of the nation”.

The same sentiment was shared by the former Minister Plenipotentiary at the League of Arab States, Djamel Djaballah, who spoke of the virtues of the late President: “A sincere and committed man, faithful to his principles, devoted to his nation, and dedicated to his work. He was a believer in his people's potential and looked forward to a strong, sovereign, cohesive, and united Algeria”.

Mr. Djaballah, who also served as Vice-President of the Economic Sector at the Arab League, recalled that the late Mujahid was “deeply imbued with the values of the glorious November Revolution and faithful to the martyrs' legacy. During his presidency, he worked to extinguish the fires of discord and build the Republic’s institutions to lead the country out of that period”.
