Pharmaceutical Industry: Kouidri Receives the Deputy Chairperson of the African Union Commission

The Minister of Pharmaceutical Industry, Wassim Kouidri, received today, Tuesday, in Algiers, the Deputy Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Ms. Salma Malika Haddadi, who was accompanied by the Head of the Health Division at the African Union, Dr. Adamu Isah, according to a ministry statement.

During the meeting, which took place at the Ministry's headquarters, the Minister reviewed the dynamism characterizing the pharmaceutical industry sector in Algeria. He noted that local production currently covers 82 percent of the national market's medicine needs, and that industrial facilities in Algeria represent one-third of all such units in Africa.

For her part, Ms. Haddadi expressed the African Union's intention to supply the Union's health clinic with medicines manufactured in Algeria, given the quality and availability of these medicines, in addition to their competitive pricing.

She also praised the efforts made by Algeria in developing its pharmaceutical industry, which has qualified the country to become a leading regional hub in supporting African capabilities and enhancing continental integration in the manufacturing of medicines and vaccines.
