Algeria, Mauritania Discuss Enhancing Trade and Finalizing Preferential Agreement

Minister of Foreign Trade and Export Promotion, Kamel Rezig, discussed with the Mauritanian Minister of Trade and Tourism, Zeinebou bint Ahmednah, ways to strengthen trade cooperation between the two countries, particularly the finalization of the preferential agreement and the facilitation of trade exchanges, according to a ministry statement on Tuesday.

The meeting took place on Monday during the working visit of the Mauritanian official to Algeria as part of a high-level ministerial delegation led by Prime Minister Mokhtar Ould Djay, on the occasion of the 20th session of the Algerian-Mauritanian High Joint Commission for Cooperation.

According to the statement, the talks focused on continuing the work of experts from both countries to finalize the preferential agreement, which aims to support trade exchanges and expand access for products to both markets.

The two parties also discussed means to facilitate and simplify customs procedures for goods between Algeria and Mauritania, contributing to the fluidity of trade and encouraging economic operators to intensify their commercial activities.

Furthermore, they reviewed the ongoing preparations for the 8th exhibition of Algerian products and services in the Mauritanian capital, Nouakchott, scheduled from May 5 to 11, 2026. This exhibition serves as an economic milestone to enhance the presence of Algerian products in the Mauritanian market and develop partnerships between economic operators in both countries.

The discussions also addressed ways to activate trade agreements between the two nations, alongside preparations for the 10th session of the Algerian-Mauritanian Business Council and the organization of bilateral meetings between businessmen from both sides, according to the same source.
