The National Independent Authority for Elections (ANIE) announced in a communiqué released Wednesday that voters can begin establishing voting proxies upon request until June 28, in preparation for the legislative elections scheduled for July 2.

"Pursuant to Presidential Decree No. 26-145 convening the electorate for the election of members of the People's National Assembly (APN) on July 2, 2026, and in application of the provisions of Organic Law No. 21-01 relating to the electoral system, as amended and supplemented, ANIE informs Algerian citizens registered on the electoral rolls that they may begin, at their request, establishing a voting proxy from April 20, 2026, until June 28, 2026," the source specified.

The Authority also indicated that the categories of voters concerned by this procedure include hospitalized patients, for whom the proxy is established before the director of the hospital facility. It also includes the sick at home and/or persons with heavy disabilities or in a state of incapacity, for whom the proxy must be established before the secretary of the communal commission for the revision of electoral rolls, who will travel to their residence.

Furthermore, the Authority specified that for "the category of workers and employees working outside their wilaya of residence or traveling, and who are required to remain at their workplaces on polling day, as well as university students and vocational training trainees studying outside their wilaya of residence, the proxy is established before the president of the communal commission for the revision of electoral rolls of any commune within their wilaya of residence."
