The latest issue of the Official Gazette has published the Organic Law on political parties, which defines the conditions and procedures for the creation, operation, and organization of political parties.

Article 4 of the law states that authorized political parties shall exercise their activities freely within the framework of "constitutional provisions and the democratic and republican character of the State."

In the same context, Article 5 specifies that a political party is "obliged, in its creation, operation, and activity, to respect the nation's constants, notably the values and fundamental components of the national identity in its three dimensions: Islam, Arabism, and Amazighism."

According to the same article, the historical constants of the nation include "the values of the Revolution of November 1, 1954, and its founding Proclamation, national independence, and sovereignty, as well as the democratic and republican character of the State, in addition to national unity, territorial integrity, and the higher interests of the State."

Furthermore, Article 95 clarifies that "authorized political parties in regular status before the publication of the new Organic Law must bring their statutes into compliance during their first congress following the entry into force of this Organic Law."

As for authorized political parties in an irregular status, "they must regularize their situation within six months from the date of the entry into force of the said Organic Law, under penalty of judicial dissolution."
