A new record level of electricity demand was recorded this Monday afternoon, reaching 21,378 megawatts (MW), according to a statement from the Ministry of Energy and Renewable Energies.
The statement explained that "coinciding with the heatwave currently affecting several of the country’s wilayas, the Sonelgaz Group—through its subsidiary, Sonelgaz-Electricity Transmission and System Operator—recorded a new peak in electricity demand today, Monday, reaching 21,378 MW at 3:30 p.m."
This peak is the second of its kind recorded during this year's summer, which "reflects the continuous increase in electricity consumption, particularly during periods of extreme heat and high humidity," the statement added.
