The President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, reaffirmed on Monday evening the commitment of Algeria and Angola to strengthening peace and stability in Africa and to intensifying coordination against common threats, within the framework of an African approach based on peaceful solutions and non-interference in the internal affairs of States.
In a joint statement with his Angolan counterpart, Mr. Joao Lourenço, following the talks they held at the headquarters of the Presidency of the Republic, the President of the Republic discussed cooperation between the two countries at the regional and international levels. He specified that he had emphasized with the Angolan President "the importance of strengthening peace and stability in Africa and intensifying coordination to face common threats, primarily terrorism and organized crime, within the framework of an African approach based on peaceful solutions and non-interference in the internal affairs of States."
"Based on our commitment to respecting international law, we have expressed our support for the right of peoples to self-determination, namely the Sahrawi and Palestinian peoples, in accordance with UN resolutions and international legality that guarantee them this right," the President of the Republic added.
He further praised "Angola's active role, under the leadership of President Joao Lourenço, in mediation and conflict resolution, particularly in Central Africa and the Great Lakes region," while also commending the efforts of the Angolan President during his chairmanship of the African Union (AU).
On the economic front, the President of the Republic noted a convergence of views on "the importance of joint African action and support for the economic integration process, particularly through the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and major structuring projects that promote interconnection and integration among the continent's countries."
It is within this framework that the agreements signed—on the occasion of President Joao Lourenço's state visit—fall, covering the sectors of hydrocarbons, agriculture, the pharmaceutical industry, renewable energies, health, digitalization, and training, the President of the Republic explained. He specified that it was agreed to develop mechanisms for exchanging experts in all these fields, whether through the Joint Commission or the Joint Business Council.
After reiterating Algeria's readiness to support development efforts in Angola, particularly in the training of executives, the President of the Republic welcomed the "important agreements concluded" between the two countries, which, he said, "are intended to strengthen the legal framework and open new prospects for bilateral cooperation."
"The realization of the direct air link project between Algiers and Luanda will constitute one of the main milestones in strengthening exchanges and bringing the two peoples closer together," he assured, specifying that the opening of this route will take place "in July of the current year."
On the same occasion, the President of the Republic made a point of praising the sentiments of friendship expressed by President Joao Lourenço towards Algeria, particularly through the tribute paid to its historical symbols. He reaffirmed the importance of strengthening bilateral cooperation in the field of memory and history, especially regarding colonial crimes, for "the preservation of memory and the establishment of historical justice."
The President of the Republic also extended his thanks to the Angolan President for his kind invitation to visit his country, an invitation he committed to "honoring at the earliest opportunity."
