The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) has unveiled the composition of a Technical Study Group tasked with analyzing all 104 matches of the 2026 World Cup. This marks a first in the tournament's history, with the ambition of providing the public, teams, and players with the "most advanced" performance data and analyses ever produced during a World Cup.

Under the direction of Arsène Wenger, FIFA's Chief of Global Football Development, and operationally led by former Swiss goalkeeper Pascal Zuberbühler and Tom Gardner, Lead of Football Performance and Trends, this panel will bring together ten renowned former internationals and coaches: Otto Addo, Tobin Heath, Jurgen Klinsmann, Jayne Ludlow, Michael O'Neill, Gilberto Silva, Jon Dahl Tomasson, Paulo Wanchope, Aron Winter, and Pablo Zabaleta.

Based across Miami, Dallas, and Manchester, the group will rely on a team of analysts, data scientists, and engineers capable of processing thousands of data points in real time, drawn from six camera angles for each match.

Through its "Enhanced Football Intelligence" service, FIFA intends to offer analyses enriched with augmented reality visuals and unprecedented tactical metrics, which will be broadcast both during and after the matches.

"The Technical Study Group allows us to identify game trends, prepare future generations for the evolutions in football, and contribute to making this sport more exciting," stated Mr. Wenger, highlighting the desire to combine technical expertise with massive data exploitation.

For the first time, fans will also have real-time access to the group's analyses via social media and the FIFA Training Centre's YouTube channel, where the detailed conclusions of its work will be published throughout the competition.

The Technical Study Group will also be responsible for selecting the winners of the individual awards presented at the conclusion of the tournament.
