The Somali Minister of Interior, Federal Affairs, and Reconciliation, Mr. Ali Yusuf Ali Hoosh, praised on Wednesday Algeria's leading role in supporting just causes, describing the country as a strategic partner and a steadfast supporter of Somalia's sovereignty and stability.
In a press statement following an audience with the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Mr. Hoosh stated that he delivered a written message from Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, expressing "deep gratitude and appreciation for Algeria’s leading role in supporting African and Arab just causes."
The Somali Minister expressed his great joy in visiting Algeria, emphasizing that "this brotherly country has remained, throughout various historical stages, a steady supporter of the Federal Republic of Somalia and a strategic partner with whom we share bonds of brotherhood, solidarity, and a common destiny."
He further underscored that Algeria is a "reliable partner and a brotherly nation linked to Somalia by a deep-rooted relationship based on mutual respect and sincere cooperation," highlighting his country's keenness to "continue joint work to strengthen these relations and push them toward broader horizons."
Mr. Hoosh noted Somalia’s aspiration to maintain this "distinguished" path between the two countries "to serve the interests of both brotherly peoples and strengthen the unity of the African continent and the Arab nation."
On behalf of the government and people of Somalia, he extended "sincere appreciation and gratitude to Algeria, its leadership, government, and people, for its honorable positions in support of Somalia's unity, sovereignty, and stability, and for its constructive role in supporting peace, development, and the strengthening of Somali state institutions."
He pointed out that Algeria "has always been a voice for Somalia in regional and international forums," and that its "sincere brotherly stance will remain a source of appreciation and pride for our people."
Regarding the current state of bilateral relations, the Minister highlighted that they are "witnessing an advanced stage of cooperation and rapprochement," adding: "We are pleased to see the positive results of the agreements and memorandums of understanding signed between the two sides across various fields, reflecting a shared will to enhance bilateral partnership."
The Somali official also touched upon the scholarships provided by Algeria to Somali students, praising this initiative as "a real investment in human capital, skill development, and the strengthening of cultural and scientific exchange between the two countries."
Regarding the opening of the Algerian embassy in the capital, Mogadishu, Mr. Hoosh described it as "a significant step that reflects the depth of bilateral relations and opens wider prospects for cooperation and coordination in political, security, economic, social, and educational fields."
Finally, he addressed the various challenges facing the African continent, stressing the importance of "strengthening joint cooperation and coordination in the fields of security, stability, and the fight against terrorism and extremism" to consolidate regional peace and security and achieve the aspirations of African peoples for development and prosperity.
