Registration has officially opened for the second edition of the Timimoun International Short Film Festival competition, scheduled to take place next November in Timimoun. Submissions will be accepted until June 30, according to a statement issued this Saturday by the festival's organizing committee.
The festival's official competition includes categories for short narrative films, short documentaries, and short animated films. The jury will award official prizes featuring the Golden Gourara for Best Short Narrative Film, the Golden Gourara for Best Short Documentary, and the Golden Gourara for Best Short Animated Film. Additionally, the awards will include the Film Clubs Prize, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Actor and Actress, as well as the Tinerkouk Prize for Best African Film.
Certain conditions have been set for participating in the competition, including that the film must be produced in either 2025 or 2026, its runtime must be between 10 and 40 minutes, and the films must be subtitled in either Arabic or English. Furthermore, each director is permitted to participate with only one film.
The organizers have called upon those wishing to participate in the competition to submit their applications exclusively via the festival's official page on the FilmFreeway platform under the name: Timimoun International Short Film Festival.
The same statement added that the festival "bets on the short film as an independent cinematic format capable of producing new forms of narrative and visual expression, and opening wider spaces for experimentation and the discovery of new cinematic voices."
The same source added that within the framework of artistic and cultural exchange, the festival "opens up to short film experiences from all over the world" by welcoming works that "reflect the diversity of contemporary cinematic visions, styles, and languages."
The first edition of the Timimoun International Short Film Festival, organized under the patronage of the Ministry of Culture and Arts, was held last November with the participation of 62 films from 31 countries, including Senegal as the guest of honor.
