The Minister of Post and Telecommunications, Sid Ali Zerrouki, announced on Saturday, on the occasion of World Telecommunication and Information Society Day, the launch of the national digital empowerment program (77.7), aimed at equipping Algerian citizens with the digital skills required to support the national digital transformation process.
This ambitious national initiative, launched under the slogan "From 7 to 77 Years Old: A National Journey Towards Digital Skills," aims to "qualify Algerian citizens of all ages by equipping them with the digital skills required to meet the demands of the era and support the national digital transformation process," a ministry press release indicated.
This program, presented as "the most integrated of its kind at the national level," targets seven age categories through "seven carefully designed educational pathways to meet the needs of each stage."
The program begins with the "Technology Explorers" pathway, intended for children aged 7 to 10. It continues with the "Technological Strata," "Innovators," and "Professional Technology" pathways directed at youth and students, and concludes with the "Technology for Growth," "Digital Empowerment," and "Technology Seniors" pathways, designed for adults and the elderly up to 77 years of age.
This program "integrates cybersecurity awareness as a mandatory pillar in each of the seven pathways, through the fight against phishing, scams, and disinformation, as well as the protection of personal data, making it a pioneering program in strengthening the digital protection of Algerian society at all levels."
Regarding its implementation, the program combines distance and in-person learning through seven skills centers spread across the wilayas of Algiers, Oran, Annaba, Setif, Chlef, Saida, and Adrar, with a hosting capacity of 1,000 trainees per year for each center, the press release highlighted.
During the first year of this program's implementation, the ministry aims to "produce a tangible national impact, with the qualification of 25,000 to 30,000 citizens per year and the organization of 550 to 850 workshops and training sessions, as well as cybersecurity training for all participants."
This initiative is part of a national partnership between the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications and the companies Algérie Télécom and Mobilis, with the upcoming integration of other operators, the press release concluded.
