The Minister of Post and Telecommunications, Sid Ali Zerrouki, oversaw the installation of the Permanent Sectoral Committee for Scientific Research and Technological Development, which will work to link scientific research with the sector's needs and keep pace with digital transformations, according to a ministry statement released this Wednesday.

The same source explained that Mr. Zerrouki's supervision yesterday, Tuesday, of the installation of the Permanent Sectoral Committee for Scientific Research and Technological Development falls within the framework of "embodying the State's orientations aimed at promoting scientific research, enhancing innovation, and linking the university and research centers to the actual needs of the sector."

This committee is considered a "space for scientific and technological consultation and coordination, as it includes representatives from various sector structures and affiliated institutions, alongside national scientific competencies and expertise. This allows for the accompaniment of the rapid digital and technological transformations the world is experiencing today."

The committee will be responsible—as the statement pointed out—for "studying and proposing strategic orientations related to scientific research and technological development in the fields of postal services and modern technologies," while working on "valuing national competencies, encouraging innovation, and producing national technological solutions that respond to the sector's priorities and future challenges."

On this occasion, Mr. Zerrouki affirmed the "strategic importance of scientific research, as a fundamental pillar for building a knowledge economy and strengthening digital and technological sovereignty." He stressed the "need to create effective bridges between academic research and economic and administrative institutions, ensuring the transformation of knowledge into added value and tangible projects that serve the citizen and national development."

In the same context, the Minister emphasized the "need to direct the committee's work towards achieving goals with quick and tangible returns, by focusing on applied projects that can be implemented and directly benefit the sector and the citizen."

He also called for "paying special attention to the issue of artificial intelligence, as it is one of the most prominent current technological transformations." He highlighted the "necessity of investing in it by encouraging research and development and building innovative national solutions that keep pace with global developments and serve digital transformation in Algeria," according to the same statement.
