A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed today, Tuesday, in Algiers, between the Maritime Works Group (GTM) and China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC), to establish a joint venture responsible for dredging national ports and all related operations, according to a statement from the Ministry of Public Works and Basic Infrastructure.

The signing ceremony, which took place between the CEO of the Maritime Works Group (GTM), Mustapha Saïdani, and the Director General of the Chinese company (CHEC), Sun Yingguan, was overseen by the Minister of the Sector, Abdelkader Djellaoui. The event was attended by central executives from the ministry, as well as the CEOs and Directors General of the National Agency for the Construction of Port Infrastructure, the Mediterranean Maritime Works Company, and the Algerian Company for Dredging Maritime Works and Irrigation.

This memorandum aims to strengthen and develop cooperation between the two parties in dredging national ports, with the goal of restoring standard depths along berths, port basins, access channels, and port entrances. This will ensure the optimal utilization of these vital facilities, improve their performance, and boost their economic yield, the same source added.

This comes as a concrete implementation of the instructions issued by the President of the Republic of Algeria, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, during the Council of Ministers meeting held on April 19th.
