The Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Fisheries, through the General Directorate of Forests, will mark the World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought, which falls on June 17 of each year, by organizing a series of activities at the national level under the patronage of the sector's minister, Mr. Yacine El Mahdi Oualid, according to a statement issued by the directorate today, Tuesday.

This year's activities focus on highlighting the pivotal role of rangelands in adapting to climate change, enhancing food and water security, as well as preserving biodiversity and the cultural identity of pastoral communities, under the slogan: "Rangelands: Recognize their value, respect them, and restore them."

This slogan, chosen by the Secretariat of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), aims to raise awareness about the economic, environmental, and cultural importance of rangelands, and to encourage investment in rehabilitating degraded lands while valuing the role of the traditional guardians of these natural spaces.

On this occasion, the official events for the World Day will be held in Laghouat, alongside similar activities across various wilayas of the country, organized by the forestry directorates with the participation of civil society, media, educational institutions, local authorities, and various administrations.

These activities include organizing exhibitions, awareness lectures, and distributing educational brochures, in addition to photo galleries, film screenings, and participation in local radio programs, within the framework of an approach aimed at instilling a culture of protecting natural resources and combating desertification.
