The Air Algérie Group launched a new air route to Libreville (Gabon) via Douala (Cameroon) on Tuesday from the Algiers Houari Boumediene International Airport. This new route allows the national airline to consolidate its network on the African continent, thereby contributing to strengthening Algeria's position as a regional air transport hub.
The inaugural flight launch ceremony was held under the supervision of Abdelghani Dridi, Secretary General of the Ministry of the Interior, Local Authorities, and Transport, in the presence of the Ambassador of the Gabonese Republic in Algiers, Marie Rosine Mimi Itsana, along with executives from Air Algérie and other national agencies.
In a statement to the press at Algiers International Airport, the head of Air Algérie's Commercial Division, Abd Manaf Hadefi, affirmed that the opening of the Algiers-Libreville route is part of efforts aimed at strengthening air connectivity between Algeria and African countries, with a view to consolidating economic, commercial, and cultural exchanges.
He added that the Air Algérie Group's fleet reinforcement and renewal program, currently being implemented, will significantly contribute to this dynamic of continental cooperation.
The opening of this new route falls within the implementation of the national air transport development strategy. It reflects the Air Algérie Group's commitment to supporting national directives aimed at strengthening Algeria's presence on the African continent through the expansion of its network, facilitating the mobility of people, and supporting economic, commercial, and investment exchanges between Algeria and sister African countries, Air Algérie highlighted in a press release.
This new destination, the airline added, is also part of efforts aimed at strengthening ties between African countries and supporting the growing dynamic of cooperation and partnership across the continent. This will subsequently contribute to consolidating Algeria's position as a regional air transport hub and a gateway connecting various African destinations.
The Air Algérie Group "reaffirms its determination to continue implementing its development programs, expanding its route network, and improving the quality of its services, in order to offer more travel options to its customers and contribute to the strengthening of exchanges and integration between the peoples and States of the African continent."
For her part, the Gabonese Ambassador to Algeria underscored the importance of this new route, noting that it reflects the will and ambition of both countries to strengthen their cooperation within the framework of African solidarity, and to work together to reinforce ties between the two States and their peoples in the economic, commercial, and cultural fields.
The opening of this new route aligns with the application of the public authorities' directives aimed at strengthening the airline's presence on the African continent, which will broaden the prospects for continental and South-South cooperation.
This connection reinforces the other routes inaugurated last year (Algiers-Abuja and Algiers-N'Djamena). It will be operated twice a week, on Tuesdays and Fridays, for Air Algérie customers traveling via Douala.
