The Minister of Mines and Mining Industry, Mourad Hanifi, received in Algiers his Nigerien counterpart, the Minister of Mines of the Republic of Niger, Commissioner Colonel Ousmane Abarchi. The Nigerien minister is on a working visit to Algeria on June 23 and 24 as part of the strengthening of bilateral cooperation in the mining sector, a ministry statement indicated on Tuesday.
This visit is part of the implementation of the recommendations stemming from the Algerian-Nigerien Joint Grand Commission, as well as the strengthening of historical and fraternal relations between the two governments. It also reflects the shared will of both countries to consolidate their partnership, particularly in the field of mineral resources, the same source specified.
The discussions between the two ministers, which were attended by the Secretary of State to the Minister of Mines and Mining Industry, Ms. Karima Bakir, focused on several priority areas of cooperation. These notably include the exchange of expertise in the fields of mining exploration, geological mapping, and the training of specialized executives and technicians.
The talks will also allow for the examination of joint investment opportunities in the mining sector, in line with both countries' commitment to economic development and regional integration in Africa.
Furthermore, the visit's program includes working sessions with the heads of public enterprises and agencies under the supervision of the Ministry of Mines and Mining Industry. These sessions are dedicated to sharing experiences and good scientific and technological practices related to mining activities.
At the conclusion of this visit, the two parties are expected to establish a joint roadmap aimed at ensuring the implementation of the agreed-upon cooperation actions across the various fields examined, the statement concluded.
