The Minister of the Interior, Local Authorities, and Transport, Mr. Saïd Sayoud, recalled on Tuesday in Algiers the special attention given by the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, to improving public service and bringing the administration closer to the citizen.
In a speech delivered at the opening of the National Conference on Public Service, organized at the Moulay Ahmed-Medeghri National School of Administration (ENA) on the occasion of United Nations Public Service Day, Mr. Sayoud specified that "the improvement of public service receives special attention from the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, who has made the modernization of the administration and bringing it closer to citizens one of the major axes of national reforms." He noted this is achieved through "the simplification of administrative procedures, the generalization of digitalization, the improvement of reception and guidance conditions, and the strengthening of mechanisms for addressing citizens' concerns."
Reviewing the efforts deployed in his sector to develop public services and improve the quality of services provided to citizens, the Minister notably cited the digitalization of administrative services, the modernization of civil registry services, the development of digital platforms, and the strengthening of interoperability between administrations, which guarantee faster processing of files and better public performance.
He explained that local authorities "remain at the heart of this approach, as the link closest to the citizen," highlighting their continued support with the necessary means and mechanisms to improve public service and promote local development.
In this context, Mr. Sayoud reaffirmed his ministerial department's commitment to continuing modernization efforts, in accordance with the directives of the President of the Republic, in order to anchor the values of equity, transparency, and dignity, and to guarantee a modern and effective public service that meets the citizen's aspirations.
For his part, the Ombudsman of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Hattab, reviewed in his speech the "important milestones" achieved by Algeria in the process of modernizing public service, through the modernization of structures, the simplification of procedures, the generalization of digitalization, and the improvement of the quality of reception and care for citizens, thereby contributing to "establishing a more efficient, transparent administration that is closer to the citizen."
"The new phase, under the leadership of the President of the Republic, carries a clear vision aimed at rehabilitating public service and placing the citizen at the center of all public policies," he maintained, recalling that the President of the Republic has given instructions to ensure that "the citizen feels a real change, wherever they may be, and maintains a harmonious relationship with the administration and public service throughout the entire national territory."
The Office of the Ombudsman of the Republic "plays a central role" in this process through "listening to citizens' concerns, receiving their requests, processing their grievances, supporting public administrations, and proposing solutions capable of improving the performance of public action and enshrining the principles of equity, efficiency, and quality of service," he said.
Furthermore, Mr. Hattab welcomed the digital transformation currently underway in Algeria, calling it an "essential lever to bring the administration closer to the citizen, facilitate access to public services, fight against bureaucracy, and strengthen transparency, in line with national directives aimed at establishing a modern and smart administration."
