The proceedings of the National Conference on Public Service kicked off today, Tuesday, at the "Moulay Ahmed Medeghri" National School of Administration in Algiers, on the occasion of commemorating the United Nations Public Service Day.

This conference is organized by the Office of the Ombudsman of the Republic under the slogan "Equity is the Foundation of Public Service, and the Citizen's Dignity is a Priority." The event took place in the presence of the Minister of the Interior, Local Authorities, and Transport, Said Sayoud; the Ombudsman of the Republic, Mohamed Hattab; and the Minister and Wali of the Algiers wilaya, Mohamed Abdennour Rabehi. Also in attendance were a representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Resident Coordinator of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Algeria, Natasha van Rijn, as well as officials from several national bodies and institutions.

In his speech on this occasion, Mr. Sayoud explained that "the issue of improving public service receives special attention from the President of the Republic, who has made modernizing the administration and bringing it closer to the citizen one of the main axes of national reforms."

After highlighting "the strategic position of human resources in elevating public performance," Mr. Sayoud praised "the pivotal role of the Office of the Ombudsman of the Republic in strengthening trust between the citizen and the administration and in addressing citizens' concerns."

For his part, the Ombudsman of the Republic highlighted the importance of innovation in public service and in addressing citizens' concerns. He noted that "every effective and modern public service remains based on justice and equity, making the citizen the focus of all reform."

He affirmed that "the new phase, led by the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, carries a clear vision to restore the standing of public service and place the citizen at the heart of all public policies," adding that the President of the Republic "has obligated all of us to ensure that the citizen feels real change wherever they may be."

For her part, the Resident Coordinator of the UNDP in Algeria praised the efforts and dynamism seen in Algeria in the field of improving public service, particularly through reliance on digitalization and artificial intelligence, which, she said, "has strengthened trust between the administration and the citizen."

On the occasion of this conference, a partnership agreement was signed between the Office of the Ombudsman of the Republic and the UNDP to develop capacities in the areas of equity and the quality of public service. Additionally, the launch of the first cohort of a master's program in "Public Policies and Strategic Management of Public Service" was announced, in cooperation with the higher education and scientific research sector, for the benefit of public administration executives.
