The President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, praised the pioneering role of the National People's Army (NPA) in the development of the national mechanical industry, in light of the progress and achievements made in recent years, during the inauguration of the 57th edition of the Algiers International Fair (FIA) at the Exhibition Palace in Algiers.
In a special broadcast dedicated to the official opening of the event, aired on Wednesday evening by Algerian public television channels, the President of the Republic stated at the Ministry of National Defense stand that the NPA truly constitutes "the locomotive of the country's mechanical industry," thanks to the advanced level of manufacturing it has reached—the fruit of the discipline, determination, and skills at its disposal.
On this occasion, the President of the Republic expressed the hope of taking up a national challenge to produce, by 2028, a fully Algerian engine and gearbox. He insisted on the need for start-ups to integrate into the military mechanical industry through subcontracting in order to achieve the goal of manufacturing an Algerian car equipped with an Algerian engine.
During his visit to the stand of the Algerian Economic Renewal Council (CREA), the President of the Republic brought up the Fiat plant in Oran, asserting that the integration rate there has exceeded 30%. He specified that this rate is expected to reach between 40% and 45% thanks to the contribution of national subcontracting companies in the manufacturing of other Fiat vehicle components.
After praising the exceptional work accomplished by private operators in the industrial sector, the President of the Republic underlined the need to further integrate start-ups. He insisted on the importance of prioritizing national production and reducing reliance on the import of spare parts, with the exception of those requiring highly advanced technology. He recalled that Algeria possesses high-level human resources, notably qualified and competent engineers, stating that it is time to give them the opportunity to fully contribute to the development of the national economy.
Touching upon the mechanisms for supporting investment and accompanying project promoters, the President of the Republic highlighted the "transparency and efficiency" of the one-stop shop, considering it concrete proof of integrity and the fight against corruption, as it allows investors to more easily obtain the documents necessary to realize their projects.
At the Iris company stand, the President of the Republic reaffirmed the public authorities' commitment to facilitating import procedures for producers and investors wishing to acquire equipment. He specified that import requests for new equipment intended for investment, as well as essential raw materials, are approved automatically.
During his stop at the stand of Sonelgaz International, a subsidiary of the Sonelgaz group, the President of the Republic praised the company's competitiveness, which recently realized its first energy projects in Niger. He reaffirmed that Algeria always remains ready to support African countries in the energy field.
The President of the Republic also visited the stands of several brotherly and friendly countries participating in the fair, calling for the strengthening of economic partnerships and the broadening of prospects for bilateral cooperation.
It should be noted that the 57th edition of the Algiers International Fair, organized this year under the slogan "Trust and Stability for Sustainable Growth," brings together 781 national and foreign companies representing 36 countries, including Spain, the guest of honor for this edition. The event will continue until June 27, 2026.
