The Minister of Foreign Trade and Export Promotion, Mr. Kamel Rezig, presented on Wednesday in Algiers to an International Monetary Fund (IMF) delegation the efforts deployed by Algeria to develop foreign trade and promote non-hydrocarbon exports, highlighting the country's ambition to become a regional economic and commercial hub connecting Europe and Africa.

This presentation took place during an audience granted by Mr. Rezig, in the presence of ministry executives, to an IMF delegation led by the Fund's mission chief in Algeria, Mr. Charalambos Tsangarides. The meeting falls within the framework of the periodic consultations conducted by the international financial institution with Algeria.

During this meeting, the Minister provided a detailed overview of the current state and development prospects of Algeria's foreign trade sector. He highlighted the economic momentum the country is experiencing, driven by the economic reforms initiated by the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, which aim to diversify the national economy and strengthen its competitiveness.

Mr. Rezig also underscored the results achieved in promoting non-hydrocarbon exports. This success is notably reflected in the expansion of the Algerian exporter base and the entry of national products into new markets, alongside efforts made to support economic operators and strengthen the presence of Algerian products in foreign markets.

Furthermore, the Minister discussed the evolution of the national production fabric, marked notably by the growing number of manufacturing companies that have contributed to substituting imports with local products. This process strengthens the country's economic sovereignty, reduces its dependence on foreign markets, and fosters wealth and job creation.

In this context, Mr. Rezig assured that Algeria aspires to become a regional economic and commercial hub connecting Europe and Africa. This ambition relies on developing its national production capacities and executing strategic projects launched by the State, with a view to consolidating its position as a reliable partner and supplier of products and services to African and international markets.
