The Venezuelan Minister of Health, Carlos Alvarado, announced that the death toll from the two devastating earthquakes that struck Venezuela has risen to 235, as search operations for the missing and those trapped under the rubble continue.

For his part, Jorge Rodríguez, President of the Venezuelan National Assembly (Parliament), confirmed that the country is racing against time to rescue the injured and trapped. This comes amid ongoing aftershocks, which exceeded 138 by Thursday afternoon, prompting the government to declare several regions, including the state of La Guaira, as disaster areas.

He noted that at least 346 buildings have been damaged, including eight hospitals, some of which were evacuated as international rescue teams arrived to participate in relief operations. He further called on citizens to donate relief materials at designated collection centers.
