On behalf of the President of the Republic of Algeria, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, the Prime Minister, Mr. Sifi Ghrieb, oversaw today at the Abdelatif Rahal International Conference Center (CIC) in Algiers the activities commemorating the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. The event, organized under the high patronage of the President of the Republic, was held under the slogan: "One Year Since the Launch of the National Strategy... Together We Rise to the Challenge."

The commemoration ceremony took place in the presence of several government members, officials, and representatives from various national bodies involved in drug prevention and control, alongside representatives from security agencies, judicial bodies, and civil society actors active in awareness and prevention.

This occasion carries a special significance as it serves as a national milestone to evaluate the outcomes of a full year of implementing the National Strategy for the Prevention of Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (2025–2029) and to assess the progress achieved in realizing its objectives and programs.

In this framework, the progress report on the implementation of the National Strategy was handed over to the Minister of Justice, Keeper of the Seals, Mr. Lotfi Boudjemaa. The report includes the outcomes of the achievements realized during the first year of its implementation, alongside recommendations aimed at enhancing the effectiveness of national interventions in the field of drug prevention and control.

In his address on the occasion, the Prime Minister emphasized that commemorating the International Day Against Drug Abuse represents a national and international milestone that demands confronting a scourge whose dangers transcend the boundaries of public health to affect national security, social cohesion, and the foundations of sustainable development.

He explained that drugs erode minds, waste energies, and threaten the human capital upon which nations build their hopes for progress and prosperity, making the fight against them a national duty and a civilizational stake that requires the mobilization of all resources and the combined efforts of various actors.

He also highlighted that the passage of one year since the National Strategy for the Prevention of Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (2025–2029) entered into force confirms the Algerian state's adoption of a comprehensive and multidimensional strategic approach. This approach is built on coordination and integration among various sectors and institutions, and it stems from an accurate diagnosis of the phenomenon with the aim of addressing its root causes, drying up its sources, and strengthening prevention, treatment, and enforcement mechanisms.

He added that this effort falls within the framework of the continuous implementation of the directives of the President of the Republic aimed at strengthening the national system to combat drugs and psychotropic substances, and elevating the mechanisms for confronting this scourge to the highest levels of efficiency and effectiveness. This is particularly relevant following the legislative revision aimed at modernizing the legal framework and adapting it to evolving criminal methods and the transformations taking place within this phenomenon, in a manner that aligns with national priorities and responds to regional and international commitments.

The activities concluded with honoring the security services that achieved the best qualitative operations in the field of drug control, in recognition of their outstanding efforts in protecting society, dismantling illicit trafficking networks, and strengthening the security and stability of the country.
