Algeria and China Discuss Expanding Cooperation in Renewable Energy and Green Hydrogen

The Minister of Energy and Renewable Energies, Mourad Adjal, received on Saturday in Alger Mr. Han Wenxiu, Deputy Director of the Executive Office of the Central Financial and Economic Affairs Commission and Director of the Office of the Central Rural Work Leading Group of the People's Republic of China. The two parties discussed ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the fields of energy and renewable energies, according to a ministry statement.

During the meeting, the Minister emphasized the strength of the cooperation between Algeria and China in the energy sector, praising the achievements of Chinese partner companies, particularly in renewable energy infrastructure projects. He cited the completion of the largest photovoltaic plant in Algeria, located in the Foulia region, as a prime example.

The Minister called for expanding cooperation to benefit from Chinese expertise in carbon footprint reduction and the development of green hydrogen as an alternative energy source, as well as enhancing cooperation in specialized human resource training.

In terms of monitoring ongoing projects, the Minister stressed the need to accelerate the completion of the hybrid power plant in the Tebessa province and the Birine project, both of which are being executed by Chinese firms.

For his part, Han Wenxiu praised the level of cooperation between the two countries in the energy sector. He welcomed the proposals presented by the Minister and the future cooperation prospects, particularly in solar and wind energy, as well as the manufacturing of solar panel components and accessories.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides agreed to work on providing favorable conditions to move forward in strengthening bilateral energy cooperation to achieve mutual benefits, reflecting the directives of the leaders of both nations, according to the same source.
