The Ministry of Youth is organizing, starting this Monday, the "Drug Prevention Awareness Week," with a view to strengthening national efforts aimed at preventing the scourge of narcotics and psychotropic substances, and raising awareness among youth, a ministry statement indicated.

"As part of the celebration of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, observed on June 26 of each year, and in fulfillment of the commitments of the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, regarding the empowerment, integration, and protection of youth against risky behaviors, the Ministry of Youth is organizing the 'Drug Prevention Awareness Week' from June 29 to July 8, under the slogan 'Conscious Youth... A Future Without Drugs,'" the same source specified.

This program will be organized at "youth establishments and summer camps, in coordination with the various sectors and bodies concerned, with the contribution of partner youth organizations and associations, notably those receiving funding for their projects in this field."

This initiative is part of the "strengthening of national efforts aimed at preventing the scourge of narcotics and psychotropic substances and raising awareness among youth, in line with the objectives of the national strategy to combat drugs and psychotropic substances (2025-2029), supervised by the Ministry of Justice, through the National Office for the Fight Against Drugs and Drug Addiction (ONLCDT)," the statement added.

"The implemented program targets more than 3 million young people," through "the organization of a series of educational, recreational, and outreach awareness activities at more than 2,800 youth establishments, over 500 summer camps, and public spaces, in addition to media and digital spaces."

These activities "aim to promote the culture of drug prevention and to raise awareness about the dangers and harmful effects of this scourge on the individual and society."

The program also highlights "the role played by the executives of the 500 counseling and listening centers and over 450 youth health clubs belonging to the sector, as spaces for reception, guidance, and sustainable support." It also provides for the strengthening of coordination and integration with the various sectors, as well as the involvement of the family and the various components of civil society in prevention efforts.

This initiative reflects "the Ministry of Youth's commitment to continuing its efforts to strengthen prevention and anchor the values of responsibility and awareness among youth, in support of the actions of military authorities and security services, in order to preserve future generations from the dangers of drugs and drug addiction and to contribute to the building of a safer and healthier society," the statement specified.
