The President of the Council of the Nation, Mr. Azzouz Nasri, highlighted in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, the consolidation of true democratic practice in Algeria. He emphasized the strengthening of the rule of law and institutions, a commitment spearheaded by the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune.
In a speech delivered on his behalf by Mr. Salah Rekik, Vice-President of the Council of the Nation and head of the Algerian parliamentary delegation to the 19th session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean (AP-UpM), Mr. Nasri affirmed that Algeria "is moving forward in its developmental and revival path thanks to the competencies of its youth."
In this context, Mr. Nasri pointed to the major national milestone currently taking place in Algeria: the legislative elections. He noted that the Algerian people are freely and transparently choosing their representatives in the People's National Assembly (APN) under the supervision of the Independent National Electoral Authority (ANIE). This event coincides with the celebration of the 64th anniversary of Independence Day.
The President of the Council underscored the "deep historical symbolism" of this anniversary, recalling the immense sacrifices of the Algerian people that resulted in an independent, stable, and secure state, sovereign in its decisions and open to international cooperation to foster prosperity in the Mediterranean basin and establish a more equitable international order.
He further noted that under the leadership of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Algeria is undergoing a "radical transformation toward a diversified economy." This shift is centered on digitization, technology, renewable energies, and the positive application of Artificial Intelligence (AI), relying on youth as the nation's true wealth.
Addressing international issues, Mr. Nasri highlighted the role of diplomacy in conflict resolution and peacebuilding. He noted that in the Middle East, such diplomacy is crucial to "counter colonial narratives supported by a biased international system" that has failed to protect colonized peoples in Gaza, the Occupied Palestinian Territories, lebanon, and other occupied regions.
He reaffirmed that "there is no security or peace without a fair settlement of the Palestinian cause," which must involve the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with Al-Qods Al-Sharif as its capital within the framework of the two-state solution. He called on Mediterranean and global parliamentary diplomacy to advance this path, while confirming Algeria's full support for brotherly Arab nations targeted by aggression.
