The choir of the Algiers Opera "Boualem Bessaih" delivered this Sunday a remarkable artistic performance at Houari Boumediene International Airport in Algiers. The performance featured a rich repertoire of national songs as part of the celebrations marking the 64th anniversary of Independence Day and the restoration of national sovereignty.
This live artistic performance, initiated by the Opera in cooperation with Houari Boumediene International Airport, was organized in the airport's transit and waiting area. The choir presented a selection of Algerian national songs that invoked the values of the liberation revolution and national struggle, infused with the melodies of various genres of Algerian musical heritage, eliciting great interaction from both Algerian and foreign passengers.
The Algiers Opera Choir excelled in performing masterpieces of national song in an operatic style, such as "Aleyki Minni Assalam Ya Arda Ajdadi" (Peace Be Upon You, Land of My Forefathers), "Tamurt-iw" (My Country), and "Goumari." These were masterfully executed with exceptional vocal tones by the 25-member ensemble under the leadership of Maestro Zouhir Mezari, in an initiative aimed at commemorating Independence Day and anchoring the values of patriotism and pride in Algeria's glorious history.
This exceptional artistic performance also included live piano renditions of international works by major artists, including "Sawt Al-Alam" by Michael Jackson, performed with an Algerian artistic spirit, which was warmly received by the passengers.
In this context, the manager in charge of the Algiers Opera "Boualem Bessaih", Mourad Senouci, stated to APS that this artistic initiative organized at the airport, coinciding with the celebration of the 64th anniversary of Independence Day, aims to "promote the authentic Algerian cultural heritage and introduce various national artistic genres to visitors of Algeria," as well as "create a lively, joyful atmosphere and welcome tourists and arrivals to Algeria through art and culture."
The speaker added that a diverse musical and vocal program inspired by authentic Algerian heritage and national anthems was specially selected for the occasion to "highlight the sacrifices of the martyrs and the glories of independence anchored in the collective memory." He also noted that the Algiers Opera institution seeks to generalize this concept in the future by organizing artistic performances in public spaces, such as public squares and metro stations, to encourage the choir's talents to innovate.
