The University of Algiers 3 "Ibrahim Sultan Cheibout" and the Algeria Press Service (APS) agency announced on Sunday in a joint statement the launch of a new academic master's degree dedicated to higher education and scientific research in the field of "agency journalism," in preparation for the 2026/2027 academic year.
The launch of this academic specialty, a first in Algeria, falls within the framework of the cooperation and exchange agreement signed in November 2024 by the Rector of the University of Algiers 3, Mr. Khaled Rouaski, and the Director General of APS, Mr. Samir Gaïd. This agreement aims to strengthen communication bridges between the academic community and national institutions, according to their areas of specialization, while equipping them with the scientific and technical skills required for their development and modernization plans.
This new academic milestone also comes in the context of APS's qualitative transformation toward a comprehensive global news agency model, as well as the expansion of its reach at regional and international levels. It also aligns with the growing dynamics within the Faculty of Information and Communication Sciences of the University of Algiers 3, as a pioneering national academic hub in the field of information and communication sciences, the statement added.
This academic specialty dedicated to agency journalism is unique on an international scale and meets a real need at the continental level, particularly within the framework of cooperation and solidarity efforts with the news agencies of sisterly African nations.
This step also reflects the interest of the Higher Education and Scientific Research sector in effectively supporting the development requirements of the national socio-economic sector, the statement concluded.
