Algeria's commitment to Africa's development has significantly strengthened in 2025 through the hosting of major African economic events, alongside the launch of strategic initiatives confirming its leadership, particularly regarding the continent's economic integration.

Throughout the year drawing to a close, Algeria has been at the heart of African dynamics by hosting conferences, fairs, and forums of continental dimension dedicated to various fields. These events illustrate its firm will to support African nations in their strategic development projects.

These gatherings served as spaces for consultation, exchange, and partnership aimed at strengthening continental integration in a spirit of sharing and exemplary cooperation based on mutual interest.

The flagship event hosted by Algeria in 2025 was undoubtedly the 4th edition of the Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF 2025), for which all necessary conditions were met to ensure its success.

This mobilization was crowned by unprecedented results, far exceeding those recorded during previous editions. The Algiers edition brought together 2,148 exhibitors, while the number of visitors reached 112,476.

Economically, a record amount of $48.3 billion in contracts was concluded, surpassing the initial objective of $44 billion. The lion's share of these agreements went to Algeria, totaling $23 billion.

These results reinforce Algeria’s position as a key player in promoting African economic integration and its status as the engine of the continent's development.

Focus on Health Sovereignty and Pharmaceutical Independence

Another significant event hosted by Algeria in 2025 was the African Ministerial Conference on the Local Production of Medicines and Health Technologies, organized under the high patronage of the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, and in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO).

Held under the theme "A Local Pharmaceutical Industry for an Integrated and Strong Africa," this conference brought together Ministers of Pharmaceutical Industry and Health from over 29 African countries. It was an opportunity for the country to reaffirm its commitment to sharing its expertise in the pharmaceutical sector.

During the official opening, the President of the Republic emphasized—in a speech delivered by Prime Minister Mr. Sifi Ghrieb—the necessity of strengthening Africa's capacities in the pharmaceutical industry, specifically through local drug production, to ensure its health security.

This conference culminated in the adoption of the "Algiers Declaration," which established a common vision for the development of the continent's pharmaceutical industry. This includes lifting regulatory barriers, harmonizing procedures, and creating an African trade grouping to facilitate the circulation of raw materials and pharmaceutical products.

Boosting Innovation and Startups

Continuing this dynamic of African integration, Algeria hosted the African Startup Conference, bringing together over 200 African and international exhibitors and investors.

The meeting confirmed Algeria's ambition to build an interconnected African ecosystem for startups based on innovation and entrepreneurship.

Hosting Rwanda as the guest of honor, the conference—initiated by Algeria in 2022—featured a ministerial summit including some forty ministers, numerous heads of international organizations, entrepreneurs, and investors specializing in technology.

The Algiers Declaration that concluded this meeting highlighted the participating ministers' commitment to supporting the continent's startups in expanding their activities to regional and international markets and strengthening their access to funding sources.

A Voice for Africa on the Global Stage

Alongside these major events, Algeria organized several other regional meetings and thematic forums addressing various socio-economic concerns of the continent, including the 44th General Assembly of the Shelter Afrique Development Bank in July, as well as the annual meetings of the African Tax Administration Forum (ATAF 2025) held in early November.

Driven by a firm determination to contribute to building a united, sovereign, and resilient Africa, Algeria also carried the continent's voice at the G20 Summit held on November 22 and 23 in Johannesburg, South Africa.

The President of the Republic pleaded the cause of developing nations, particularly African ones, calling for the cancellation or conversion of their debt into direct and productive investments.

The President also recalled the urgency of pooling efforts to face political and economic challenges threatening global cohesion, highlighting African concerns related to poverty, unemployment, development disparities, the effects of climate change, and the unprecedented debt levels of certain low-income countries.
