Algeria condemned, on Saturday, with the greatest firmness, the decision of the Zionist entity to recognize the territory of Somaliland, describing it as an "illegal move seriously infringing upon the sovereignty of the Federal Republic of Somalia as well as its unity and territorial integrity," according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
"Algeria condemns in the strongest terms the decision of the Israeli occupation authorities to recognize the territory of Somaliland, in an illegal move that constitutes a serious infringement on the sovereignty of the Federal Republic of Somalia, its unity, and its territorial integrity, in addition to representing a direct threat to peace, security, and stability in the region," the same source specifies.
Algeria reaffirms that "this rejected and condemned decision constitutes a flagrant violation of the principles enshrined in the United Nations Charter, as well as the founding principles of the African continental system, particularly the principle prohibiting any infringement on the national borders of States—a principle enshrined by the Organization of African Unity (OAU) and reaffirmed by the African Union (AU) as a fundamental pillar for the preservation of peace, security, and stability on the continent."
Thus, "Algeria reiterates its total and unwavering support for the Federal Republic of Somalia in the face of this direct threat, which carries serious repercussions for the security and stability of the country as well as the Horn of Africa region as a whole," the statement concludes.
