The Secretary of State to the Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mines, in charge of Mines, Ms. Karima Bakir Tafer, received this Monday in Algiers the Resident Representative of the World Bank Group in Algeria, Ms. Cemile Hacıbeyoğlu Ceren, where the two parties discussed ways to enhance cooperation in the mining sector, according to a statement from the ministry.
The same source clarified that this meeting, which took place at the ministry's headquarters in the presence of executives from both sides, falls within the framework of continuing previous consultations and exchanges between the two parties. It provided an opportunity to discuss prospects for supporting cooperation, particularly in technical aspects, exchanging expertise, and accompanying projects related to the development of the mining sector.
The talks, according to the statement, focused on ways to enhance cooperation in the field of technical assistance and ongoing and future projects, especially those related to the development of the mining sector in Algeria, particularly in the areas of exploiting and processing mining resources.
In this context, Ms. Bakir Tafer presented an overview of the sector's most prominent development programs and structural projects currently underway, alongside the legal framework regulating mining activities in Algeria and the facilities and incentives it includes for investors.
She also reviewed, on this occasion, the sector's development plans, especially those related to the local valorization and processing of mineral resources, through a number of structural projects, such as the Gara Djebilet iron mine project, the integrated phosphate project, and the zinc and lead exploitation project, in addition to other projects aimed at producing raw materials intended for various manufacturing industries.
For her part, the Resident Representative of the World Bank Group in Algeria expressed the Group's interest in the mining sector in Algeria, confirming its readiness to accompany and support the sector's institutions. This includes contributing to attracting investments and involving public and private foreign companies, as well as providing support in the areas of project management, technical accompaniment, and the exchange of expertise across the value chain in the mining sector, according to the statement.
