The President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, reaffirmed yesterday, Tuesday, Algeria's support for just causes in the world, foremost among them the Palestinian and Sahrawi causes.
In a speech to the Nation delivered before both chambers of Parliament at the Palace of Nations (Algiers), the President of the Republic indicated that "our country's diplomacy has not changed and will not change: we stand with Palestine and we will not abandon it, regardless of the criticism."
"Battered Gaza is enduring a genocide in silence. We will not abandon it, as we demonstrated at the United Nations Security Council, and it is for this reason that I decorated Algeria's Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Amar Bendjama, with the medal of the National Order of Merit at the rank of 'Achir'," continued the President of the Republic.
"The same applies to the question of Western Sahara: we call for respect for the will of peoples and their consultation," maintained the President of the Republic, adding that "when a people demands independence, their will must be respected."
"We are committed to international law, which guarantees the right of peoples to self-determination," he recalled. Discussing international and regional issues, the President of the Republic said that "the situation in Libya breaks our hearts, and we hope that an inter-Libyan solution will be found."
The solution in this country "can only come from its people," he insisted. Furthermore, he recalled the deep fraternal ties uniting Algeria with its African neighbors, particularly the Sahel.
