The newly appointed Ambassador of the Republic of Italy to Algeria, Ms. Alessandra Schiavo, reaffirmed on Wednesday her country's determination to work toward strengthening the bonds of friendship and partnership with Algeria.

In a statement following the presentation of her credentials to the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Ms. Schiavo highlighted the strong relations of friendship and partnership between Algeria and Italy, praising the "rapprochement" between the two peoples.

She also noted the "long-standing tradition of understanding spanning centuries between the two nations," while evoking the memory of "the friend of Algeria, Enrico Mattei."

Turning to economic relations, the Italian Ambassador expressed her hope that they would rise to the level of the bilateral political dialogue, which has "now reached a strategic dimension." She noted that "hundreds of Algerian and Italian companies look forward to collaborating to contribute to the growth of both countries."

"We wish to work with you to reach new stages of cooperation, not only in oil and gas production but also in the fields of decarbonization, reducing gas flaring, and renewable energies," she added, recalling that there are currently "150 Italian companies active in Algeria."

She further revealed that "other Italian companies are ready to invest in several sectors of mutual interest, particularly transport, telecommunications, digitalization, and tourism," while also praising the natural and cultural wealth of Algeria, which she described as "among the most beautiful countries in the world."

The Italian diplomat also advocated for greater support for the private sector and "working together to encourage economic partnerships and job creation."

On another note, the Ambassador considered that Algeria and Italy are capable of "building a common future based on progress, stability, and hope in an increasingly fragmented and fragile world."

"Together, we can take on the challenges and face the transformations of our era, the fluctuations of global markets and supply chains, as well as wars and the resulting destruction, violence, and violations of human rights and the rights of peoples," she concluded.
