The World Food Programme (WFP) warned on Thursday that food aid provided to millions of people in Sudan, which has been ravaged by armed conflict for over two years, could come to an end in March due to a lack of funds.
"Without immediate additional funding, millions of people will be left without vital food aid within a few weeks," stated the World Food Programme, which has already "been forced to cut rations to the bare minimum necessary for survival."
The UN agency has been alerting the public for several weeks regarding food insecurity in Sudan, stating that it affects more than 20 million people in the country and warning against the consequences of funding cuts on the supply chain.
Sudan has been torn apart since April 2023 by a conflict pitting the Sudanese Armed Forces against the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which has caused tens of thousands of deaths and left millions displaced.
