Commissioned by the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, the Prime Minister, Mr. Sifi Ghrieb, oversaw this Sunday, jointly with the Head of Government of the Tunisian Republic, Mrs. Sarra Zaafrani Zenzri, the ceremonies commemorating the 68th anniversary of the Sakiet Sidi Youssef events, on the soil of the sisterly Republic of Tunisia.

The Prime Minister and his accompanying delegation were granted an official reception by his Tunisian counterpart at the Algerian-Tunisian border crossing, before heading to the headquarters of the Sakiet Sidi Youssef municipality for a bilateral session. During the meeting, both sides praised the "depth of the historical brotherly relations uniting the two countries and their peoples, as well as their joint struggle for independence, where the blood of the two peoples intermingled".

During this meeting, emphasis was also placed on the "importance of continuing joint action to strengthen bilateral cooperation in various fields and elevating it to the level of a strategic partnership, in accordance with the high directives of the two countries' leaders, the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, and his brother, the President of the Tunisian Republic, Mr. Kaïs Saïed".

Following this, the Prime Minister and the Tunisian Head of Government, accompanied by the delegations of both countries, proceeded to the memorial monument commemorating the events of Sakiet Sidi Youssef. There, the Fatiha from the Holy Quran was recited, and they paid tribute to the souls of the righteous martyrs who fell as a result of the brutal bombing of the village by French colonialism on February 8, 1958—a crime that embodied the unity of destiny and the joint struggle between the Algerian and Tunisian peoples.

On this occasion, the Prime Minister delivered a speech in which he highlighted the "depth of the historical ties uniting Algeria and Tunisia," emphasizing that "the common blood shed on the soil of Sakiet Sidi Youssef has formed an eternal symbol of sincere brotherhood and the unity of struggle against colonialism".

The Prime Minister emphasized that "today’s joint efforts follow in the footsteps of those who came before, in order to consolidate relations characterized by distinction and exceptionalism, based on solidarity and joint action for just causes, freedom, and dignity," noting that this shared memory "remains a fundamental pillar for strengthening the strategic partnership between the two countries in light of current challenges".

He also mentioned that the legal texts resulting from the 23rd session of the Algerian-Tunisian Joint High Commission for Cooperation, held last December 12th—covering various fields of cooperation—alongside the signing of several economic partnership agreements between Algerian and Tunisian companies during the Economic Forum held on its sidelines, "stand as clear evidence of the distinguished level reached by bilateral relations and the promising opportunities that must be exploited to consolidate and expand this partnership".

For her part, the Tunisian Head of Government reaffirmed the "strength of the deep-rooted relations between the two countries, based on mutual respect and permanent solidarity," highlighting the "keenness of the leadership of both nations to elevate bilateral cooperation to higher levels, in a way that serves the interests of the Algerian and Tunisian peoples".
