Mandated by the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb co-presided on Sunday, along with the Tunisian Head of Government, Ms. Sarra Zaafrani Zenzri, over the ceremony commemorating the 68th anniversary of the events of Sakiet Sidi Youssef in the brotherly Republic of Tunisia.
An official reception was held for the Prime Minister and his accompanying delegation by the Tunisian Head of Government at the Algerian-Tunisian border post.
During a bilateral session held at the headquarters of the Sakiet Sidi Youssef municipality, the two parties hailed "the depth of historic fraternal relations uniting the two brotherly countries and peoples, as well as their common struggle for independence, of which the Sakiet Sidi Youssef events—where the blood of the Algerian and Tunisian peoples mingled—constitute one of the milestone stages that will remain forever engraved in collective memory."
The two parties also highlighted "the importance of pursuing common action to strengthen bilateral cooperation in various fields and raise it to the rank of strategic partnership, in accordance with the directives of the leaders of both countries, the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, and his brother, the President of the Tunisian Republic, Mr. Kais Saied."
Subsequently, the Prime Minister paid his respects, accompanied by the Tunisian Head of Government and delegations from both countries, before the commemorative stele of the Sakiet Sidi Youssef events. There, they recited the Fatiha of the Holy Quran in memory of the martyrs of the bombardment of this village by the French colonizer on February 8, 1958, a crime that illustrated the shared destiny and unity of struggle between the Algerian and Tunisian peoples.
In a speech delivered on this occasion, the Prime Minister highlighted the "depth of historical ties between Algeria and Tunisia," stressing that "the blood that mingled at Sakiet Sidi Youssef is the eternal symbol of sincere brotherhood and unity of struggle against colonialism."
"Common efforts today draw inspiration from the ancestors to consolidate exceptional relations, founded on solidarity and common action in favor of just causes, freedom, and dignity," added Mr. Sifi Ghrieb, noting that this shared memory "remains an essential foundation for strengthening the strategic partnership in the face of current challenges."
The signing of several agreements and memorandums of understanding covering various fields of cooperation during the 23rd session of the Algerian-Tunisian High Joint Commission, held last December 12, and the signing of several economic partnership agreements between Algerian and Tunisian companies during the Economic Forum organized on the sidelines of that session, "indisputably testify to the level of excellence reached by bilateral relations and the promising opportunities that must be seized to consolidate and expand this partnership," the Prime Minister continued.
For her part, the Tunisian Head of Government emphasized the "solidity of the deep and rooted relations between the two brotherly countries, founded on mutual respect and constant solidarity," recalling "the commitment of the leaders of both countries to raising bilateral cooperation to higher levels, in the service of the interests of the Algerian and Tunisian peoples."
