The Tunisian Head of Government, Ms. Sarra Zaafrani Zenzri, stated on Sunday that the commemoration of the 68th anniversary of the Sakiet Sidi Youcef massacre is an opportunity to recall a page in the history of the common struggle of the Tunisian and Algerian peoples.
In a speech delivered at the commemoration ceremony of the Sakiet Sidi Youcef massacre, which Ms. Zaafrani Zenzri co-presided over with Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb, the Tunisian Head of Government indicated that this event is also "an opportunity to draw inspiration from the noblest meanings of solidarity, mutual aid, and sincere brotherhood, imbued with the blood of martyrs, which stem from the deep historical fraternal ties between the two countries, and a renewed message to successive generations, outlining an exceptional relationship between the Tunisian and Algerian peoples."
She hailed the development of bilateral cooperation between the two countries in recent years, which is experiencing a "growing pace in many fields and tangible progress in several priority files, particularly regarding security, energy, trade, and the development of border regions."
This exemplary cooperation has been strengthened, the Tunisian Head of Government added, by the exchange of high-level visits and the holding of numerous ministerial meetings and working sessions within various joint technical and sectoral commissions, "illustrating the shared realization of the need to transform political will into concrete achievements mutually benefiting the citizens of both countries."
She praised "the exceptional level of cooperation and security coordination" between the two countries, which reflects, she said, "a shared conviction of the need to protect the security and stability of both countries, and which constitutes a model to follow within the framework of successful bilateral work, and a bulwark against common security challenges and dangers threatening the region, notably terrorism, smuggling, organized cross-border crime, and illegal immigration."
Ms. Zaafrani Zenzri mentioned, in this regard, the 23rd session of the Algerian-Tunisian High Joint Commission for Cooperation, held in Tunis on December 12, 2025, which constituted, she emphasized, "a decisive step in the journey of bilateral relations due to the qualitative results and practical recommendations it produced, crowned by the signature of 25 agreements between the two countries in various fields, and reflecting the exceptional level reached by bilateral cooperation and the firm will of the leaders of both countries to elevate this cooperation to a phase of strategic integration."
