The Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad, and African Affairs, Mr. Ahmed Attaf, received on Thursday at the Ministry's headquarters the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the friendly Republic of Uzbekistan, Mr. Bakhtiyor Saidov, who is on an official visit to Algeria.
On this occasion, Attaf held private talks with his Uzbek counterpart, followed by an extended working session attended by members of both delegations.
The discussions provided an important opportunity to review and assess the pace of bilateral relations and explore ways to elevate them to higher levels, in service of the mutual interests of both countries and their brotherly peoples.
In this context, the two Ministers stressed the importance of giving greater momentum to Algerian-Uzbek relations by creating mechanisms to frame bilateral cooperation, such as the establishment of a Joint Commission and a Business Council, while prioritizing key sectors including mining, energy, agriculture, trade, and culture. They also underscored the importance of strengthening the legal framework for bilateral cooperation.
At the multilateral level, the two Ministers exchanged views and analyses on a number of regional and international issues of common interest, particularly as Uzbekistan is set to assume the presidency of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) starting next January. The two sides also discussed ways to strengthen cooperation between Africa and Central Asia.
At the conclusion of the talks, a signing ceremony was held for an agreement on visa exemption for holders of diplomatic passports, as well as a Memorandum of Understanding between the Diplomatic Institute and International Relations of Algeria and the University of World Economy and Diplomacy of Uzbekistan.
