UNESCO praised Algeria's efforts in protecting the Tipasa archaeological site, which is listed as a World Heritage site, during the 48th session of UNESCO's World Heritage Committee held in Busan, Republic of Korea, according to a statement released Tuesday by the Ministry of Culture and Arts.
The Ministry expressed its "satisfaction with the World Heritage Committee's decision regarding the technical report on the state of conservation of the Tipasa archaeological site." The statement noted that the committee "unanimously adopted a resolution containing explicit recognition of the efforts deployed by the Algerian state to ensure effective, sustainable management and to safeguard the tangible and intangible elements carrying the authenticity of this extraordinary monument."
The same source mentioned that the committee congratulated Algeria on drafting the site's management plan for the 2025–2030 period, considering its effective implementation to be "a solid pillar for managing the site and protecting its Outstanding Universal Value."
Furthermore, the Ministry affirmed its "commitment to implementing the technical recommendations outlined in the resolution and to submitting an updated report on the site's state of conservation and the progress made in implementing these recommendations to the World Heritage Centre by December 1, 2028." It emphasized that protecting national heritage remains "a top priority that reflects Algerian identity and its historical depth."
