The Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Lounès Magramane, co-chaired on Monday in the Latvian capital, Riga, along with the State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia, Andzejs Vilumsons, the second session of Algerian-Latvian bilateral political consultations, according to a statement by the Ministry.
According to the statement, these talks allowed for "a review of the friendly relations binding Algeria and Latvia, based on the values of solidarity and mutual respect, as well as ways to strengthen the institutional and legal framework of cooperation between the two countries in order to give it further momentum, particularly by encouraging the exchange of visits at various levels."
In this regard, both parties reiterated "their shared desire to consolidate bilateral relations in various fields by exploring opportunities and prospects to enhance economic and commercial cooperation, in line with the capabilities possessed by both countries, especially in priority sectors such as information and communication technology, artificial intelligence, startups, digitization, higher education, and scientific research," the statement added.
On the level of multilateral cooperation, both sides agreed on "the need to intensify coordination and strengthen political consultation between the two countries in various international forums to effectively address current challenges." In this context, Mr. Lounès Magramane expressed "Algeria's readiness to discuss ways to share its experience in the UN Security Council as the Republic of Latvia begins, for the first time, its term as a non-permanent member of the Security Council for the period 2026-2027," the same source added.
The two parties also exchanged, on this occasion, "views and analyses on a number of regional and international issues of common interest, particularly those related to developments in the respective regions to which both countries belong."
