Algeria chaired, this Sunday in Cairo, the 16th meeting of the Technical Committee on Intellectual Property.
This concerns the Intellectual Property and Competitiveness Unit of the League of Arab States, chaired by Samir Thaalbi, Director General of the National Office of Copyright and Neighboring Rights (ONDA).
According to a statement from the aforementioned Office, the meeting discussed "the recommendations of the 15th session and the continuation of coordinating joint Arab action."
This is linked to the proposals of the two subcommittees (Industrial Property, and Copyright and Neighboring Rights), reviewing the progress made in various cooperation files.
The agenda of this session included the discussion of several strategic axes, most notably the project to establish the Arab Electronic Register platform.
The project enjoys the support of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), alongside the launch of the Regional Network of Technology and Innovation Support Centers (TISCs) in Arab countries.
The session also discussed the challenges facing copyright and neighboring rights, especially in light of the rapid development of Artificial Intelligence applications.
The meeting highlighted the continuation of Arab efforts aimed at enhancing the protection of creativity and developing an integrated intellectual property system that keeps pace with digital transformations and supports innovation.
Algeria was elected in May 2025 to chair the Technical Committee on Intellectual Property of the League of Arab States for a renewable two-year term.
