The Timimoun International Short Film Festival has announced the launch of the "Yamina Chouikh" competition—named after the Algerian filmmaker who passed away in 2022—dedicated to mobile films, according to a statement from the festival’s organizing committee.

Open to young filmmakers from the wilaya of Timimoun under the age of 35, the contest includes fiction, documentary, experimental, and animated films shot using a mobile phone, with a duration not exceeding 5 minutes.

The use of editing software and production tools is permitted, provided that all footage is filmed with a mobile phone.

Organizers also require "image and sound quality sufficient for large-screen projection" for these films, which must be produced during the year 2026.

This competition is intended as a tribute to the Algerian director Yamina Chouikh, a prominent figure in Algerian cinema, in recognition of her cinematic career, the organizers explained.

It aligns with the festival's vision to transform cinematic activity into a sustainable cultural action throughout the year by organizing creative residencies, masterclasses, and training sessions for the youth of Timimoun.

A committee will select the best entries to be screened during special sessions at the Timimoun Open-Air Theater. The authors of the selected films will also benefit from a workshop dedicated to developing their scripts under the supervision of professionals.

Applications must be sent to the email address: internationalfilmfestivaltimim@gmail.com before next September 30.
