ALGIERS, The Speaker of the People's National Assembly (APN), Ibrahim Boughali, received on Monday at the Assembly's headquarters, the Ambassador of Indonesia to Algeria, Chalief Akbar Tjandraningrat. The two parties discussed the reality and prospects of the historical bilateral relations uniting the two countries, according to a statement by the Assembly.
On this occasion, Mr. Boughali affirmed during the meeting, attended by the President of the Algeria-Indonesia Parliamentary Friendship Group, Mohamed Yazid Benhamouda, that "what unites the two countries is constructive cooperation based on foundations of friendship, affection, and joint cooperation." He praised "the efforts exerted by His Excellency the Ambassador in strengthening these relations through an approach that contributed to enhancing diplomatic convergence during his tenure in Algeria."
At the parliamentary level, the Speaker of the Assembly expressed—adds the statement—his "pride regarding the significant steps achieved thanks to cooperation and convergence between Algiers and Jakarta, translated by mutual visits between the Speakers of both parliaments as well as parliamentary delegations." In this context, he pointed to "the importance of the visit by the Algeria-Indonesia Parliamentary Friendship Group to Jakarta last January and the fruitful and positive outcomes that resulted from it."
In this regard, the Speaker of the APN expressed—as stated in the source—his "aspiration to follow up on the implementation of these recommendations to elevate bilateral relations to higher levels."
The occasion also served as an opportunity to address the economic relations between the two countries, emphasizing "the necessity of strengthening them through strong partnerships, contributing to increasing the volume of trade exchange and investment." In the same framework, he valued "Indonesia's stances, shared with Algeria, regarding just causes in the world."
