National coach Farid Benstiti has summoned 28 players for a preparatory training camp at the National Technical Centre in Sidi Moussa (Algiers), scheduled from February 24 to March 7, as part of preparations for the 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations finals, the Algerian Football Federation (FAF) revealed on Monday via its official website.
During this training camp, which includes a trip to Cairo (from February 26 to March 4), the national team is set to play two friendly matches against their Egyptian counterparts in the Egyptian capital.
The squad will return to Algiers on March 4 to continue preparations at the Sidi Moussa National Technical Centre until the conclusion of the camp on the scheduled date.
The draw for the Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON 2026) has placed the national team in Group A, alongside Senegal, Kenya, and Morocco.
The "Greens" qualified for the final phase of the 2026 Africa Cup of Nations after defeating Cameroon in both legs: (2-1) in Oran and (1-0) in Douala last October.
The national team also reached the second and final round of the 2026 qualifiers after prevailing over South Sudan in February 2025 in both encounters: (5-0) in the first leg and (3-0) in the return leg.
This will mark Algeria's seventh participation in the history of the Africa Cup of Nations finals and the second in a row following the 2024 edition. In the previous tournament, coach Farid Benstiti's players achieved a historic milestone by reaching the quarterfinals before being eliminated by Ghana (0-0, 2-4 on penalties).
The 16 qualified teams for the 2026 edition have been distributed into four groups of four teams each (Groups 1, 2, 3, and 4).
Following the group stage, the top two teams from each group will qualify for the knockout stage, which includes the quarterfinals, semifinals, the third-place match, and the final. This tournament also serves as a pathway for the FIFA Women's World Cup in Brazil 2027 via playoff matches.
The 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations finals will take place from March 17 to April 3.
