The veteran international goalkeeper, Raïs M'Bolhi, announced on Wednesday night his retirement from the pitch, concluding a career spanning 21 years.

Without fanfare, true to his habit, M'Bolhi (39) announced he is "hanging up his gloves" following two modest stints with CR Belouizdad and ES Mostaganem.

It became evident that the former Olympique de Marseille goalkeeper lacked the motivation to continue, even given his advanced age.

The native of Maghnia had harbored hopes of participating in a third World Cup, following his performances in the 2010 and 2014 editions.

However, being overlooked by the former coach of the A' national team and the national selector Vladimir Petković, combined with the unsuccessful experience with "El Hawata" (ES Mostaganem), dashed those hopes.

According to media sources, "Raïs" plans to begin a new chapter as a goalkeeping coach after obtaining the necessary certifications.

M'Bolhi played for eighteen clubs across the continents of Europe, North America, Asia, and Africa.

He defended the goal of Les Verts in ninety-six matches, keeping a clean sheet in forty of them.
