The Minister of Post and Telecommunications, Mr. Sid Ali Zerrouki, paid a working visit to the Republic of Tunisia leading a high-level delegation composed of executives, experts, and representatives of structures and institutions from the post and telecommunications sector. The visit was to participate in the proceedings of the fourth session of the Algerian-Tunisian Joint Technical Committee for Cooperation in this field, held in Tunis on June 3, 4, and 5, 2026, according to a ministry statement issued today, Saturday.
According to the statement, this session comes in implementation of the provisions of the bilateral agreement on cooperation in the field of post, information technologies, and communication. It is based on the recommendations of the 23rd session of the Joint Grand Committee between the two countries, reflecting both parties' commitment to intensifying coordination, exchanging expertise, and supporting cooperation projects of mutual interest—particularly those related to developing border areas and bridging the digital divide.
The Minister, alongside his Tunisian counterpart, Mr. Sofiene Hemissi, Minister of Communication Technologies, co-chaired the opening session of this cycle in the presence of the members of both delegations, as well as executives and experts from both countries' sectors. On this occasion, Mr. Zerrouki expressed his sincere thanks and appreciation to the Tunisian side for the warm welcome, hospitality, and excellent organization. He praised the depth of the fraternal and historical bonds between Algeria and Tunisia, highlighting the distinguished level achieved in cooperation and coordination relations between the two fraternal countries. He also emphasized that the continuous development and renewed momentum witnessed in bilateral relations derive their foundation from the shared vision of the President of the Republic of Algeria, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, and his Tunisian Counterpart, President Kais Saied, aimed at elevating the Algerian-Tunisian partnership to broader horizons of integration and solidarity.
The statement added that the work of this session was organized into five sectoral working groups, which covered the following areas: telecommunications infrastructure and information technologies, radio spectrum management, cooperation between Algérie Poste and La Poste Tunisienne, technological hubs and entrepreneurship, and developing prospects for bilateral cooperation. These proceedings culminated in a series of priority recommendations and practical projects.
In the field of infrastructure, both sides agreed to develop and upgrade the existing terrestrial link between the two countries and explore the possibility of laying a new joint submarine cable toward Italy. They also discussed mechanisms to offer preferential roaming tariffs for mobile communications and develop satellite-based Internet of Things (IoT) solutions. In the area of radio spectrum, both parties agreed to establish a joint working group between the specialized authorities to coordinate mobile networks, mitigate radio interference in border regions, and enhance coordination in preparation for the World Radiocommunication Conference (WRC-2027).
On the postal cooperation front, it was agreed to launch joint philatelic programs to showcase the historical, cultural, and tourism heritage of both nations. They also agreed to develop postal transport and transit infrastructure to better support e-commerce, and establish an electronic data interchange system alongside a joint postal money transfer platform. In the field of technological hubs and entrepreneurship, both sides expressed their desire to implement practical initiatives. These include institutional twinning, supporting startups through incubation and acceleration programs, and strengthening cooperation in research, development, and innovation within international frameworks.
At the conclusion of the visit, the Minister reaffirmed Algeria's commitment to continuing its support for the bilateral cooperation process and expanding its scopes. This aims to strengthen integration between the two nations and open promising horizons for partnership, serving mutual interests and responding to the aspirations of both fraternal peoples for further development and prosperity.
